Stairs to stare at

The stairs in our living room were bringing the whole room down.  They're a lovely solid oak, but looking grubby and worn, and being in such a small room we need everything to reflect as much light as possible.

So I've made a start on sorting it out, and I've applied a coat of primer to prepare the wood for being painted with a white gloss. I probably won't get around to the actual painting until next weekend now, but already it's lifted the room a treat...

In it's prime...

Then to consider them finished I'd have to rip up the red carpets.  Back when we thought we might uncover the floorboards I wanted to get a snazzy striped runner carpet up the stairs, but now having seen just what condition the floorboards are in I think we've settled for a nice carpet for the lounge.  In which case I'll just get the same carpet to run up to the landing.
